| MINIATURE DONKEYS |
 |
Native to the Mediterranean islands of Sicily and Sardinia, the miniature donkey as defined by the Registry can stand up to 36" at the withers. They are docile and easily trained to carry small children, pull carts, carry packs and go through obstacle courses. Average weight is 250 to 450 pounds and life expectancy is 25 to 30 years.
Legend says the dark stripe that forms a cross down the back and across the shoulder is a sign that these donkeys have been touched by the hand of God.

The Boothby herd of miniature donkeys presently numbers 13, with the jack and seven jennies that were imported, two of which were pregnant at the time. One more jenny was bought in the United Kingdom. We have had four foals, of which the two born this year are by our herd sire "© Copyright". Our donkeys are all registered with the Miniature Donkey Registry of the UK. They are all 34" or under.

The Boothby Miniatures are all well-handled and regularly led. We have a team that attend several shows each summer, always with great success. We are keen to start driving some of them, and have purchased a harness. Anyone who knows of a suitable cart, please contact us!

Miniature Donkeys require similar care to any other equine, preferring to be kept in groups of at least two, and requiring regular hoof care, worming, teeth rasping, and other standard veterinary procedures. Although they are hardy, they do not like to be wet, and prefer to be kept warm and dry during the winter. Their diet should be forage-based, with higher energy food for young stock and working donkeys.
